Sunset!

Every once and awhile I run into a sunset when I have my trusty camera in my possession. These two photos were snapped up at Mayne Island and Mexico.

Are you a silhouette fan? Do you think these photos were successful?

Coffee!

It seems to be a delicacy here in Vancouver because there is literally one coffee shop per block. I took this shot at a really long exposure because it was dark in the building, right after the K'naan concert!

What do you think of this photo?

Enjoy the rest of your week!

Fall is here!

Fall is one of the best times of the year, here, in Vancouver. The leaves are falling, crisp air is present, and it is the start of a new school year (okay... maybe not the best time of the year). It is easy to take pictures with a golden sun and amazing looking leaves everywhere.

Which photo do you think "speaks" fall better? Are you a fan of fall? What is your favorite season?

Beauties!

When I take photos I usually try and have a meaning behind them, not these ones. I took them on disposable cameras and find them just beautiful, especially the sunset. They were taken in a suburb of Montreal.

Which do you like better? Do you even like them?

We Day!

Recently I had a chance to attend the free the children run "We Day." It is meant to inspire kids into making positive change. Speakers included the marvelous Al Gore, Martin Sheen who is pictured above, the Barenaked Ladies, and oh yeah, Hedly.

Do you like the blurry hands at the bottom of the screen? What do you think of these photos?

K'naan!

This photo brings back so many memories! I am a huge K'naan fan and attended his second concert here, which I just had to be at. I got a T-shirt and thoroughly enjoyed the outdoor venue. Although, it never stopped raining! It was extremely hard to get a good shot of him, but here is what I got.

What do you think of this photo? Are you a K'naan fan?

Food!

First, I have to start by apologizing for now writing in for so long. I got quite busy and didn't have the time to go out and shoot photos for you! But don't worry! I'm back!

Photographing food has always been something interesting to me. I am not into all the fake food to make items look better, I am into real food photography. This may land me at my dinning room table or a restaurant.

Which of the photos below do you do you enjoy the best? How do these photos differ on their portrayal of food? Could I have taken these photos better?

Let me know!
Challah bread toasted with homemade jam with a latte I made myself in an espresso machine!
Eggs benny with freshly made buns (topped with cured salmon) and rosemary hash-browns on the side. A mango raspberry smoothing to accompany.

Coastline

One of the things you must do in Vancouver is walk along the beautiful coastline. This shot was snapped at Kits beach. It just rained hence the puddle.

Do you like the black and white? What about the composition? Let me know!

Up in the Mountains!

Since I am lucky enough to live in BC... I have mountains to climb within an one hour drive. Therefore, I thought I should give hiking a whirl, and getting some exercise is never a bad thing! I climbed (it felt like it at least) for 2 hours up, and 2 down. After all that, the view was spectacular! Enjoy the pictures and let me know what you think! In case you are wondering, the highway in the picture is the one you drive on to get there...

Worm's Eye View

So while I was completing a photography class assignment I snapped this shot! I actually really like it, partly because of the way the background turns into a circle... there is a word for that, I just forget it now. haha.

Let me know what you think about it? Is the angle too weird for you?

SUN Glare!

Well we all run into the pesky problem of having glare in your photo, even if you protect your photos with a lens hood. BUT sometimes a little sun glare gives your photo an unique edge that you simply can't replicate, especially on film! I am having difficulty deciding if I like this one. I snapped it in Montreal at the school where that murderer killed a bunch of Woman... anyways. It really takes over the shot and has a very odd shine around the actual suns rays.

What do you think about it? Nay or Yay? Let me know! I love all your feedback, and a response is guaranteed :)

Cars!

When I was on the train home from Montreal I found this gem of a car in Melville, Saskatchewan! Unfortunately this is the main attraction in that city.

Do you think I did too much editing on this photo?

Is the composition of this photo nice? What could I have done differently? Do you like the B&W?

National Assembly of Quebec

Here are two photos of the National Assembly in the city of Quebec in Quebec. It is a nice building and has a nice free indoor walking tour that I do recommend!
Which photo do you think captures the building better and which is more pleasant to look at?

Sunset!

I took these two photos on my disposable cameras! If you haven't used disposables, I recommend you give them a shot (isn't that punny?!). They are easy to use and rather cheap these days. They add a very authentic look to photos which draws the eyes in!
Let me know what you think about these photos! Are they too dark? Do you like the corners on the second photo?

All Into One!

I have been taking a lot of photos here in Quebec! BUT mostly on disposables because tragedy hit my film camera. A crucial piece under the winder broke off, and now I am left with a camera that allows light in. I am going to try and get it fixed upon my arrival in Vancouver, but don't get your hopes up.

The other day my camera was having a problem winding but I continued on taking photos. They all ended up merging into a 8 exposure piece of film, HOW COOL!

What do you think of this? Do you like it or do you think it looks silly?

Break-Dance in the Street!

If this photo doesn't capture the spirit of break-dancing then I do not know what does. It captures the crowd, the dancer, and the rest of his crew gawking at his moves. This photo was pretty hard to take because it needed to have a fast shutter speed to account for the fast movement of the move. I just turned the aperture down to allow more light in to balance the photo. What do you think is missing in this photo? Do you like the photo?

Starbucks!

Here (in Kirkland Quebec) I have only seen one Starbucks. What a contrast to Vancouver!! I decided to capture the drinks in two different ways. I will explain.

The first is a warm photo, one object in focus, which creates an almost dripping image of this hot chocolate.

The other has a very "breakfasty," early morning look which fascinates me. It may not be taken perfectly *as you can see from the overexposure in some areas* but it conveys a message.

Do you agree with my analysis? Which do you prefer?

Office Life

Well lately at my new job in Quebec I have been spending a lot of time in the office...

I was inspired by the look of the computers, they looked just so "office" like. It really captures the boredom and the feelings within the office. I also really enjoy the cut off on the photocopier. Do you agree?

I had to throw it in for you guys :) !
P.s. For super cool bonus points, does anyone know the name of this bridge? *HINT* it is near the old port in old Montreal.

Vancouver Bridges... AGAIN!

Now you must think I am really addicted to taking photos on bridges... but wait! There is a difference this time... it's at night! I am such a amateur that I don't have a tripod, so I had to carefully balance my camera on the ledge of a bridge. Unfortunately, that meant that most of my photos did not turn out, blurriness was the cause of this mostly. The photo was taken on Canada day which meant that throngs of people were downtown, so we decided to avoid the busy Canada Line and walk it. Here is the result of that!

Do you like this photo? Are you a fan of night photography? Are you sick of off the bridge shots?

Obsessed with Bridges!

Lately it seems I have been photographing a lot on bridges. I can't blame myself for that, they just give the greatest views of everything! Another piece of life altering news! My Pentax film camera is now fixed and all 24 exposures turned out (compared to 7 or 8 before)!

Today's post has some shots of "typical" vancouver. The sky was in a good "mood" and had a half cloud half blue sky look, which photographed great! No editing done, even though the second picture looks really contrast'y'.

Which one do you like more? Which one shows Vancouver better? Let me know!

Tourist Deathtrap!

Photographing areas that are well known and tourist ridden is one of the hardest tasks for a photographer. Here are two photos, one of Notre Dame in Paris, and the other of Rockefeller Plaza in New York. In both of these photos I tried to show different angles, or just something that looked interesting compared to those dreaded postcard photos...

<---- sorry about that dumb building you can see on the left of the photo

What do you think about these photos? Did I portray the areas nicely, any suggestions?

Self Portaits

Hello everyone! Exams have preoccupied most of my time lately, I haven't forgotten about you! Here are some recent photos I took on my film camera. Capturing a self portrait on film is very hard because a) different types of mirrors have different effects on photos b) film gives you no preview before you print and develop so you don't want to waste a lot of film on these types of shots but you still want them c) although surroundings do not take up much of the frame, they are very important for the atmosphere. Let me know which one you like the most!

Rodin Museum

In class exams are over ! Yay ! Here are three different shots of the same building. I want you to think about which one captures the essence of the building better and the pond better. Please comment, these are important issues!

Rosie - my puppy

Here are some photos of my two year old dog Rosie. She is a cockapoo cavalier. Which one do you like more? Eye contact or no eye contact?Close up or far away?
I think dogs are the hardest to shoot because they don't understand you, obviously, and you look really strange making noises to catch their attentions. Have you ever tried to take a photo of a dog, what is your story?

Too Blue?

A lot of new photographers these days add a billion effects to their pictures to have that "2010" look. Well... What is your opinion? Is this photo too blue?

p.s. try and guess where this was taken.

Classic Vs. Vibrant

A vibrant color picture of beautiful pink flowers.
A very classic looking picture of a leaf.

Both taken on my film K1000, both show two perspectives of how nature can be photographed.

Which one do you like more? Classic or vibrant?

Vancouver at its Finest

Vancouver! How I love you. Here is another set of two different perspectives of basically the same thing.

Which one do you enjoy more?

A Light Show

Here is a photo from the daily fireworks shows during the Olympics.
Each using a slow shutter speed to have that fireworks effect

Let me know if you like it! Is this a kind of style th
at looks good to you?

Same idea but with a waterfall.

Do you like this one more?

I was a new photographer so I lowered the shutter speed a little too much! My bad!

Trees

Here are some photos I snapped recently. One is on film (the bottom one) and the other on my dslr. I believe trees are so beautiful and elegant, and there is no shortage of them to shoot!

Which one do you like better?

I enjoy the top one more because it incorporates the surroundings which give perspective. Do you agree?
